One of the great traditions of life at St. Paul’s School is the holding of charitable knowledge contests between pupils. Known as “Quiz Night”, the game tests the knowledge of our pauleans and their families in different areas and raises funds for institutions supported by the school.

This time St. Paul’s hosted a different event – and one that promises to become a new tradition: an exclusive Quiz Night for Old Pauleans promoted by the St. Paul’s Foundation to raise awareness for the Scholarship Program.

Held with the support of the PTA, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, the event brought together around 100 people who came to visit the school, meet friends and colleagues, and relive their student days. There were lots of references to the good times: the drinks menu had cocktails paying homage to the houses, while, among the desserts, there were three big hits among students: the lemon pie, the apple crumble, and the chocolate cake with vanilla custard. The attendees were also able to purchase accessories with the school symbol, such as stuffed lions, ties, and scarves.

Old Pauleans of various years gathered in teams to participate in a friendly and fun competition. They divided themselves into tables and all answered questions led by the evening’s master of ceremonies, the Senior Master – and well-known among former pupils – Dr Barry Hallinan. Participants could purchase cards with resources to help them answer questions, such as calling for help from a St. Paul’s teacher.

Marina Edge, a Class of 1990 alumna and member of the St. Paul’s Foundation Board of Trustees, formed a team with several classmates who graduated the same year as her and shared their feelings about this evening.

“It was a truly great occasion, fab atmosphere, and above all a super fun evening! The Old Pauleans were clearly loving being back and reconnecting with the school and old friends. It was a great way to introduce them to the work of the Foundation and to have sowed a seed of inspiration and encouraged them to support us.”

All proceeds from tickets and cards purchased by the teams went to the Foundation’s Scholarship Program. In total, more than R$ 40.000,00 were raised in donations.
