The 20 candidates running for a scholarship spot in 2023 started their St. Paul’s Foundation’s Prep Course, with online lessons and asynchronous content by our partner Cultura Inglesa and on-site sessions at St. Paul’s School. This stage lasts for up to two terms, and it’s part of the 2022-2023 selection process.

Candidates started their one-term course at Cultura in early August. As our partner in the scholarship programme, they offer weekly online classes and asynchronous content for all students.

One of our candidates, Catarina, shared their impressions of the course: “It’s been really nice. I’ve been learning very important grammar rules and find the classes to be light, fun and dynamic, with many different texts and activities.”

Débora, who’s also a candidate, said that “the course has been essential for my improvement, and I feel as though, after every class, my vocabulary gets wider. I am always learning something new.”

The candidates also attend a weekly lesson at St. Pauls as part of this term’s English immersion. Sessions have just begun and will be led by St. Pau’s Teachers. For their first session, they had a school tour and visited many of the facilities spread around the buildings: the Library, classrooms, Science labs and the P.E. Center.

At the end of the term, the 20 candidates will undergo evaluations and those who present satisfactory performance will be approved for the second semester of the preparatory course. Lasting from February to May 2023, pupils will have classes and activities in various subjects at St. Paul’s School three times a week, led by volunteer teachers from the school. In this new immersive experience, the scholarship candidate can get to know the school and vice versa.
