The most intense and expected stage of the St. Paul’s Foundation selection process has just finished: our candidates for 2023 entry wrapped up the preparation course. This programme works as a bridge that allows St. Paul’s School and the pupil to learn more about one another.

The prep course goes for nearly 12 months and is divided into two terms. In the first moment, from August to December 2022, the candidates attended weekly English lessons at St. Paul’s and take a semester in Cultura Inglesa; following up, from February to late May this year, students had classes and activities in various subjects at St. Paul’s School, three times a week, led by school volunteer teachers.  This immersive experience allowed candidates to understand better what a British education looks like and also to connect with each other. As a way to conclude this important step of the process, they’ve received a Certificate of Completion, awarding their hard work and development as individuals.

One of our candidates, Maria Eduarda, shared: “I have to admit I was a bit nervous at the beginning, but I really enjoyed the course. The teachers, pupils, everyone were very welcoming.” Benício, another candidate in the 2023 entry process, shared that: “I really loved being part of this process. There are a lot of really cool things, different subjects, different teachers, and I’m very proud of myself, even if I don’t make it to the next phase.”

During the course, the foundation submitted the candidates under psychological tests, to understand their cognitive, social and emotional abilities, and a social worker visited each candidate’s home, to assess the family environment and support through interviews with the house occupants.

Now, St. Paul’s Foundation and St. Paul’s School gather all information regarding the candidates’ performance in the whole prep course, the tests and interviews. In a few weeks, the 2023 entry selection process closes with the final scholar selection of those who will enter St. Paul’s School with a full scholarship next August.

New class for Prep Course 2024 entry

Next term, we will welcome a new class of candidates for the sixth round of St. Paul’s Foundation’s Prep Course.

Over twenty students will be evaluated and called for the most awaited phase of the selection process. Candidates will start the course in August with an English immersion programme, with weekly on-site lessons at St. Paul’s School and a one-term course at Cultura Inglesa, a partner in the scholarship programme.
