We mentioned here, a few weeks ago, the amazing results our scholars achieved at the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad (OBMEP). Now, new great accomplishments have arrived: more foundation pupils have been awarded in the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge 2023 by UKMT, the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust!

In OBMEP, our scholar Mariana received an honourable mention while João Gabriel received a silver medal! It was the school’s best OBMEP performance to date. Read more about these achievements in this post.

The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge 2023 s a 60-minute, multiple-choice Challenge that encourages mathematical reasoning, the precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. It is organised every year by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and schools both in the UK and overseas are eligible to participate.

In the latest round of the challenge, St. Paul’s was awarded 12 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 56 bronze medals, for students in Forms 3, 4 and 5.

Our scholar Mariana won a silver medal, while Enzo, Fernando and João Gabriel won gold medals! Fernando also received the title of “Best in Year” while João and Enzo were awarded “Best in School!”

We congratulate all pupils on their performance, especially our newest scholars who entered school in the last academic year and have already showcased amazing performances!

Scholars with prize-winning participation in BRAMUN

Earlier this year the Model United Nations (MUN) had an important chapter with a trip to The Hague, in The Netherlands. Our scholar Gregório participated in the trip and shared with us his insights from the journey. The MUN programme helps the pupils to develop skills such as research, open-mindedness, debating, collaboration and careful diplomacy.

Last week, the St. Paul’s delegation, under the supervision of Mr Luiz Sousa, attended the Brazil Model United Nations (BRAMUN) conference, one of the most prestigious and time-honoured events of this type in Latin America, where around 300 secondary pupils from over 15 schools across Brazil converge on Costa do Sauípe, Bahia to try and find solutions to some of the most pressing problems in the world today. Two St. Paul’s Foundation scholars joined the delegation: Gregorio and Claudia. The event demanded more than eight hours of discussions per day.

On top of debates, BRAMUN offers a unique opportunity for our delegates to meet like-minded pupils from schools around Brazil, making it a well-rounded experience. In the final session, a prizing-giving ceremony took place. Read below short testimonials from our scholars.

“BRAMUN was an incredibly fulfilling experience. The debates were so intricate and educated, with amazing chair supervision. I met so many intelligent young people that can only inspire me to become even more engaged in the MUN world. I was positively surprised by the respectful and kind environment created. Everyone was open to conversations, and I truly felt welcomed within the community.” – Claudia

“To me, BRAMUN was the best conference I have been to so far. Its structure, committees, topics and organisation does not fail to impress! I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the country while engaging in high-level debates that helped me to develop as a critical thinker, student and global citizen.” – Gregório

Both Claudia and Gregorio won a prize for their outstanding performance as the Best Delegation, representing Japan. Well done to our scholars and all 15 St. Pauls pupils who attended the conference!
